As a young lad Subhash Motwani was fond of
traveling. He also had an insatiable appetite for learning. During his trips he made it a point to learn the culture, language and traditions of the countries he visited.
As he was born into a family of educationists, it was his endeavour to train people in various disciplines. After completing his higher secondary education in 1985 Subhash took over the management of
RBCS. His fondness for travelling spurred him to pursue a course in travel & tourism. Besides pursuing his graduation in commerce while attending college, he took full-time interest in travel studies and by 1988 besides completing his graduation he had already qualified for
IATA/UFTAA Standard course in Travel agents' training from Geneva, Switzerland. In 1986, Subhash made his trip to UK and Europe where he studied French and Spanish.
Between 1986 and 1994 he made 5 trips abroad to USA, Canada and Europe and attending advanced courses in foreign languages. He also continued with his
IATA/UFTAA/FIATA exams in travel and air cargo industry having acquired over 13 qualifications including the Advanced International travel consultant diploma in travel and dangerous goods.
While
studying for his travel courses he realized that
there were
no institutes
that catered to the demands of thousands
of students who aspired to enter the travel and airline
industry.
He said, "As the travel industry is very
glamorous the number of students wanting to do a course is on the increase.
However, there are no institutes that teach students the practical aspects of the job." Subhash has strived to maintain the highest possible standards in tourism management courses. He has personally selected the faculty who work in the institute full-time unlike other institutes which depend on visiting faculty. As a result the courses lack consistency and cohesion. Many institutes even palm off courses as IATA
recognized ones.
Subhash's commitment to educating aspiring travel students is a welcome sign at a time when there are very few institutes in our country that
specialize in travel education.
He keeps close touch with professionals in the travel, airline and cargo trade in order to find out the needs of the industry.
His aim is to introduce teaching modules
that are practical and in tune with the needs of the industry. His is the only institute to introduce training on
Computerized Reservation System as well as computer aided training modules.
Each batch comprises not more than 15 students who are selected after
personalized interviews by Motwani so that he can ascertain that they are interested in learning and have an aptitude for
specializing in travel studies.
The screening method adopted by him is very rigorous thereby eliminating students who are not very much interested.
He places emphasis on quality and not quantity. During the last ATC standard course IHCTM is the only institute in India that had a pass percentage of 85.71 per cent. Many of his students in the city of Mumbai and abroad have started their own travel agencies.
He
has specially designed preparatory courses for people
who are keen on pursuing a career in airlines as flight
pursers, airhostesses and traffic assistants.
Today IHCTM offers over 20 courses in the airline, hotel and tourism industry. He constantly strives to innovate in order to be the number one training centre in Mumbai for travel studies. It is his dedication and sincerity that stands him in good stead even today.
