If
you have real bad handwriting which only you seem to understand, don't despair. Handwriting can be improved, with help. Shyam
Motwani, founder of Radio Bhuvan, the Career Supermarket
(RBCS) actually runs classes for better handwriting.
Says Motwani, "I have beautiful handwriting from an early age. I wondered why this was so and
realized that it was because of the techniques or certain methods that I used while writing."
But doesn't fast writing spoil even the best of handwriting? Says
Motwani, "It is like cycling. Once you know it you will be able to write fast as well. But of course, writing beautifully and fast, will take about eight to 10 weeks."
Motwani prefers students from age 14 for he feels very young children cannot be trained properly. He says, " I have made an exception, I have one fourth standard student, otherwise all my students are older. Traditionally, the idea of improving handwriting is by writing again and again and by copying others. Here, I make your mind understand. Once your mind understands, I teach certain techniques which help to improve handwriting."
He adds, "Like everything else we learn, good handwriting also has to be worked on. Practice is a must. I tell students that they must write everyday. The mind concentrates only for a short while.
So if one can write without distraction for about minutes, it is enough."
So while people may join the better handwriting class thinking it's a piece of cake to improve handwriting, think again. Good handwriting involves a lot of work.
Motwani's
teaching sessions for better handwriting last for about
1 ½ hours.
He
prefers to teach only one student at a time as this is a
subject which requires individual attention. The fees
are Rs 2,000 which are paid at one time. Motwani decides
how many sessions are needed. But he does not allow
just, about anybody into this class. He says, "I
believe in teaching only those who have come themselves
to improve their handwriting.
Otherwise there is no point." Hence he interviews prospective students before signing them on.
For Motwani, teaching became a mission from a profession and he never looked back since he first started teaching at his home. This was when RBCS was born.
It will soon complete 45 years. Founded by Motwani in '54, the RBCS group has been providing both vocational and professional courses through their institutes such as the Institute of Hotel, Cargo and Tourism
Management , Indian Institute of Management and Technical Studies, Institute of Media Fashion and Allied Arts, Schnell Hans Beauty Clinic,Opportunities Today, Computer Consultants, and so on.
Their courses include technical ones such as television repairing, refrigerator repairing, and also Travel and Tourism, Journalism, Management courses,
Calligraphy, Fashion Designing, Photography, Advertising and so
on.
. In addition to all these courses, Motwani also does career
counseling. This is free. Their four centres across the city, cater to hundreds of students and Motwani informs that since '54 more than 1,30,000 students have passed out from the various courses. Says
Motwani, "I began teaching when I was a teenager of about 18 years. Later, I bought a place and began Radio Bhuvan in September ' 54."
The first course introduced was radio servicing, Since 'Bhuvan' was a popular word back then, the name Radio Bhuvan was decided on. Today, the entire Motwani family is involved in the teaching and running of the different institutes.
Says Motwani, "At RBCS, our courses make you independent of teachers. What I keep on telling my students is 'take it easy and make it easy' but making it easy does not mean you should not keep on
practicing. You have to keep on working, like in the case of good handwriting."
It
is a said, 'There are no short cuts to success'.
Motwani's example only proves this adage right.
