Opportunities Today :- April 2005 Issue

Vishram Sabnis

Vishram a young man of 23 had a dream to make it big in Airlines He was keen on joining passenger handling or travel side but after September 11 incident he changed his mind to join Cargo side. He was on a look out for the right institute to get international qualifications. His friend recommended him IHCTM - the institute that has authorization from IATA for training students for 7 International qualifications - 4 in Travel and 3 in Cargo. He joined IATA/FIATA Introductory Course in late 2002 for exams in April 2003. The passing percentage is 70 and for distinction one must score 85%.

He worked well to pass his Cargo Introductory Course with distinction. Immediately on completion he got a job with Merchant Airfreight. After 2 months he got a better break and joined Eastern Logistics.

The advantage of being a student at IHCTM is that one can come back for further guidance for higher qualification. On advice of the director Vishram took admission for “DGR” - Dangerous Goods Regulation qualification- an IATA/FIATA certified course.

This qualification helped Vishram to take a big leap and he got a break in 2004 with Jet Airways - one of India’s leading domestic Airlines now flying International also.

Vishram has joined “Advanced Rating” course in Cargo which will make him eligible for promotion and higher pay. While youngsters run from pillar to post spending lakhs of rupees for foreign qualifications, Vishram could do all the three foreign qualifications including registration fees for less than Rs. 60,000 through valuable guidance. Thanks to IHCTM, with this kind of progressive plan of learning and earning, Vishram could spend even this amount from his own earnings.

Vishram's story should be an eye opener to the ambitious youth some of whom spend around a lakh for Cabin crew & Air hostess courses inspite of the selection being tough and such training being not mandatory.

OT wishes Vishram a brighter future with sky even not being the limit since he is already with an airline.
