“Overcoming Insomnia”
Sleep is beneficial for health. Average amount required by an adult is seven hours. Small children need up to 12 hours. Here are a few tips on how to get a good night's sleep :
1] Light blue or soft green colours bedroom give sense of soothing.
2] Have a regular time for going to bed. Evening walk will also help sleep.
Factors that cause disturbed sleep are : Noise, hunger, overeating, coffee, tea or alcohol, pain, too cold, too hot or too cramped and mental stress.

Avoid taking sleeping pills. Instead eat some fruit or even take a glass of sweet milk and this helps you to get sleep. Count backward from 100 to repeat counting till you get sleep. Position of lying in bed is important for getting to sleep. Lie down on your side relaxed and with legs slightly bent. To keep off cold breeze of fan or noise, cover your body upto your ears but not the full face. Too soft mattresses cause discomfort so use firm mattress. Practise relaxation exercises, yoga or meditation. In spite of above steps if your mind is still active, get up and do some work like writing or reading. Soon you will feel tired and go to sleep. To forget worries haunting you, write all thoughts clustering your mind and write against each your solution or action. This will ward off anxiety. Soft music is soothing and calms the disturbed mind, so put on some soft instrumental music. |
