Smart tips for Career!

Come June and colleges open! The ambitious youth of today want a meteoric rise to the top early in their career. Degree is a route to success for those who are studying for specific fields like engineering, medicine, C.A. law etc. For others studying for degree in arts, commerce or even science stream, their priority is to get “graduation stamp.” New generation youngsters want to enter a career or vocation along with graduation. This is easily possible as college timings specially for Arts and Commerce stream are limited to 2 to 3 hours of lectures.

Rest of the day can be conveniently utilized for attending some vocational courses. Such students should select a field of their liking and take up a 4 to 6 months vocational course. This will give them insight and necessary knowledge for entering the field. Which field to choose? Well that's a million dollar question. Some run to career counsellers to get some guidance or aptitude test. This could be a “Faux pas” as most of these age old mechanical tests don't work. Their results are presumptions based on answers which a candidate generally answers casually or in a nervous state. So the results are far from factual and hence the solutions offered too would be altogether shockingly inaccurate.

The modern technique of Career Counselling for today's bright and bold youth is personal interview, discussion, fact finding about his family, strengths, needs, support and last but not the least his own desire. This gives a total assessment of the candidate. More importantly the Counsellor should be adept at knowledge of changing career scenario vis-à-vis emerging opportunities, in absence of which one would be given a list of routine outdated careers. One should not rely on the guidance offered by institutes who are out and out to sell their courses, for they want to turn each student into a “scapegoat” to help fill their kitty.

However, right guidance can come from institutes of standing who have numerous career courses to offer. Their outlook is not money but students' welfare. So one must visit various institutes, weigh their advice carefully without being carried away.

The best guidance is a complete career plan which includes total assessment of the students followed by enlightening them about scope and opportunities, the growth process and last but not the least an after course support for placements or even entrepreneurship assistance.

After having acquired such “right” guidance through sufficient research one should go for a career course and a part or full time job. This all can be done along with graduation. One need not hesitate giving career higher priority than study for graduation. Doing graduation by correspondence can help spending more time on one's career development. It is like having one's cake and eating it too! This is your “June “ Career tip more important in today's age of competition! So let each one become an early bird in career hunt to catch the worm and keep on flying higher.
