Make Up Mysteries Unveiled

Here are a few techniques of make-up to use make-up effectively

Concealors:
Concealors should be used not very close to eyelashes. In order to effectively hide dark circles, use concealors in dots in the eye area and blend closer to the eye. Use stick based concealors as they last longer than fluid ones.

Foundation:
Use of water based foundation such as liquid foundation gives a very natural look. Make sure to use the right colour so that it blends in well with your skin. In order to ascertain whether the shade is right, test it on the inner portion of the wrist.

For longer lasting makeup e.g. the heavy evening look, use a panstick or pancake. The imported pansticks offer better variety. Their shades are ideal, once again, only for medium to dark complexions. Beige foundations are best suited for Indian skins. Remember too that pansticks/ pancakes are best applied with a wet sponge and should always be applied in the direction of the hair.

Powder:
It helps to set the makeup. It also gives a matt look and a smooth finish. For best results, use loose peach powder and patt it on gently on the skin with a powder puff. Make sure to shake off the excess. For touch -ups during the day, compact powder is ideal. However, imported translucent powders are the best as they give a very natural finish.

Blush on:
Blush on accentuates the cheekbones and adds depth to the face. For dramatic results use two tones of the same colour- one darker and the other lighter.
Blushers are best applied with a soft rounded brush. Blush ons are available as powder or creams. Cream blush ons give the skin a moist finish and should be applied with fingertips. They are best suited for normal to dry skin. Powder blush ons work on all skin types but are especially good on oily skin. They are best applied with a soft rounded brush.

Eye Make-up

Eyes are the focal point of the face, hence the right eye makeup is extremely important. Eye make-up comprises of not just eye shadows but also liner, mascara and eyebrow pencils. Here are some tips on how to do your eye makeup like a pro!

• Powder eye shadows are most ideal as they have the best staying power.
• Use a damp brush to apply eye shadow.
• Use the colour matching your outfit or else use contrasting neutral shades such as bronze.
• Use liquid liners for more dramatic looks and for softer look, you can use Kohl pencils.
• Mascara can add that extra flutter to your lashes, though for a natural look do not use more than one coat.
• For eyebrows, you could use brown and black eyebrow pencil, or for a natural look, you could use colourless mascara.

Of course, imported eye shadows offer you greater variety. They have both the matt and frosted finish. Eyeliners are also available in different colours such as brown, grey and electric blue. The latest eyeliner abroad is available in pencil form but it is not greasy, it is liquid. It is excellent for those who don't have a steady hand for application.

Lips:
Lipsticks add the finish to any makeup and sometimes just application of lipstick is enough to brighten up the face. The best way to apply lipstick is to use a lipstick brush or lip pencil to outline the shape of the lips and then fill in with the lipstick. To make lipstick last longer, keep in mind these following pointers.

1) Do not use lip gloss under/over your lipstick.
2) Use a little foundation and powder on your lips before applying lipstick. This will not only make the lipstick last longer but will help it not to 'bleed' and stay within the lipline.

We get good variety of lipstick shades in India. The well-known lipsticks are by 'Lakme'and 'Tips and Toes'. The latest in lip makeup is a topcoat for lipsticks available abroad which is transparent. This makes the lipstick last for a long time and prevents it from being wiped off.
