THE INCREDIBLE LIGHTNESS OF SUMMER

Makeup this season is notable for its sheer textures, often with a hint of glint.

What gives makeup a fresh new appeal this summer? Transparent textures, shimmery finishes and neutrals tinged with colour. The days of just one look are over. Now, four trends sum up the season. You can try them all or experiment with one or two to give your look a modern edge.

Strategically Placed Shine - Try pale iridescent eye shadow over your top lids then sweep it along your lower-lash rim. Or keep your eyes and face matte and dust glimmery blush onto your cheeks, temples and forehead. For a more dramatic focus, confine shine simply to lips.

Sheer Lip Colour - No matter what the shade, select lip colour with a sheer consistency, so skin shows through. Lipgloss is an option, as is pearlized lipstick. One that does a great job of bathing lips in long-wearing, translucent colour.

Clean Eye - In place of smoky, smudgy eyes, experiment with a pale shade of powder eye shadow on your upper lids, and leave off eyeliner. Then finish with a coat or two of black mascara.

Strong, Defined Brow
- Because the rest of the face is so subtly shaded, brows have become the likely anchor and focal point. Finish off by dusting light translucent powder on the face.
