What is ISO 9000?
It is a certification after inspection that an organization has a procedure of working for its activities, (Is this not an obvious or essential factor, for any normal
organization, so as making it needless to get certified that organization has a procedure for working!)
What Consumer needs is QUALITY SERVICE. It is a fact that every quality service has a process being followed and always being continuously improved to
enhance the quality further.
But it is totally improper to conclude that every activity with process being followed guarantees or delivers quality!
The public at large therefore should not be just carried away with impression that ISO 9000 certification is “invariably” or “always” a hall mark of quality.
Please note even ISO 9000 certifying entities state so unambiguously.
Let us take an example of an organisation entering education. It lays down a procedure of functioning, i.e. enquiry process, admission procedure, records
system, syllabus, no. of lectures, teacher's time table, notes, exams etc. This is a common step-by-step process of activities from
K.G. to College or post
graduation. How certifying that these processes as per manuals are followed ensures 'quality” of teaching?
Does certification, control, monitor, check the credentials and capabilities of a teacher? Well, this is outside ISO 9000. This is where certification stands as
just a shiny feather to give a “Great” image but real capabilities of the institute giving quality education is not controlled through certification.

So now the learned and lay readers both sit up and think unless an organisation or a company is committed and capable, ISO 9000 certification will act only
as a superficial booster rocket to its image and making gullible aspirants an easy prey!!
