Now fly Austria Direct from Mumbai with Convenient Connections Across Europe

Austrian Airlines Commences Flights from Mumbai

After the resounding success of Austrian Airlines flights from Delhi to Vienna and convenient connections to various cities in Europe, Mr Bernhard Baeck, the Country Manager- India, Austrian Airlines announced five flights a week from Mumbai w.e.f 1st September 2005. The initial response has been overwhelming as Austrian Airlines has been offering not only a very competitive inaugural fare of Rs 19900 for a Mumbai-Vienna-Mumbai sector, but also convenient connections across Europe. Mr. Vagn Soerensen, Chief Executive Officer believes that the airline has great potential out of India as it is an airline which believes in a service oriented network. Over 85% of passengers flying into Vienna from India continue their services on Austrian Airlines network which flies to 41 destinations in the Central and Eastern Europe - emerging markets for the Indian traveller.

Austrian Airlines is a mid-sized European carrier which flies to 130 destinations and operates 17 long haul aircraft. It is a member of the Star Alliance which serves about 830 destinations in more than 150 countries across the world. The specialization strategy is to make Vienna an efficient hub for traffic flow covering 3 main areas - Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia. For the Eastern European market, Austrian Airlines is the first choice for the number of destinations it flies to/from Europe. Potentially China and India are considered growing markets for the airline and since 1997 Austrian Airlines which started three flights from Vienna to Delhi, have now increased the frequency and brought it up to daily flights and during peak periods plans to fly even two flights per day. From Mumbai, each aircraft offers 36 business class and 209 economy class seats and 2006 will see the business class offering flat beds and internet access to business travellers. Importantly, Austrian Airlines has the most convenient connections to Europe and North America.

Dr Josef Burger, the Chief Commercial Officer added that Austrian Airlines is looking at 30000 passengers flying out of Mumbai in the first year which would amount to 65% to 70% of the load factor and estimating it to grow to 110000 in the coming year and this is possible as Vienna is the No 1 gateway to Europe. Out of the total passengers more than 85% fly beyond Vienna to other destinations in Europe and North America.

Mr Bernhard Baeck, the dynamic Country Manager is responsible for the Sales and Marketing of the airline and his innovative ideas have ensured the growth of the airline in the Indian subcontinent. After being 2˝ years in Delhi, Mr Baeck has moved to Mumbai and he emphasized the growing need of a carrier which offers convenient flight timings as well as convenient onward connections with the least minimum connecting time of 25 minutes all over Europe.

This makes Austrian Airlines the preferred choice for the business as well as leisure traveller. Another innovative strategy has been not only to offer Indian meals on board for both outbound and inbound flights but also Jain meals as the Jain community are one of the larger segment of the outbound travel market from India.

Already Mr Baeck has announced a very attractive inaugural fare for the economy traveller and to encourage business class travel, there is the companion free offer. Mr Baeck has emphasized a growth in two way traffic to encourage inbound tourism from Europe with Mumbai acting as a gateway city for Chennai and Bangalore. Mr Baeck also intends inviting the Film Industry to look at Innsbruck as one of the ideal locations for Bollywood films shooting which will ensure that more people are exposed to the destination which is known as the Jewel of the Alps and undoubtedly will become the hottest destination in Europe in the coming year.
