Highlights of Salon International to look forward to are
also the shows and seminars that are held on the
sidelines of the exhibition and conducted by the
Who's-Who of the field. This year the favourite was
Mahogany's “2006 Harlequin collection” that had all the
indications of a sure winner. Basically it follows a new
technique wherein shapes and soft textures are blended
into one. In colouring techniques they launched dual
shading and another technique called “Helterskelter”.
Toni and Guy launched their Identity collection that had
the Liza Minelli, Suede, Verushka and Mayoki looks. A
new concept they introduced had a fluid contrasting
colouring technique. |

The colours of the season were Cool
Caramels blended with Warm Coppers, Ice Blondes blended
with Warm Golds. Pinks, Blues and Purples also made a
strong comeback and heavy asymmetrical fringes were very
evident in their collection. |

Long hair maestro Patrick Cameron wowed all
with his long hair collection called “Ladies
who Lunch”. This was a couture collection -
elaborate yet contemporary and a sheer
delight to watch and emulate. The highlight
of the events was the Alternative Hair Show
at the Royal Albert Hall. Apart from the awe
inspiring venue, it was a show by top hair
designers form UK and Europe and all the big
names of hairdressing were there and was
truly inspirational. It was here that Vidal
Sasoon was felicitated for completing 50
years in the industry. Inspite of the vast achievements he was so modest…It was
indeed a dream come true to see him in person and hear
him speak. Indeed a memory many will cherish ! |

Live demos at the various
stalls and the bargains offered cannot be missed as also
various insights into the latest new gadgets, products
and techniques that were available… Babyliss launched
spiral tongs… There was a new blow-drying technique
called “The Wire” by Rita Rusk which helps to twist up
the volume in hair and is a versatile tool to add body
to hair. Different uses of the slim iron that add volume
to hair were also demonstrated… An Anti Splicing comb
which simplifies combing the hair without splitting it
was very innovative too as it helps even and thrifty
distribution of colour and tinting hair treatments and
deep protein conditioning treatments… |

Braid magic was
another product launched and is a motorized
hair-braiding machine that reduces braiding time by 70%
as compared to the African braiding technique that
usually takes hours to do. Besides this there was Frank Bission's new technique of cutting hair with glass -
called the Glass Hair Designer. This has been described
as the most important development since the invention of
scissors, As usual, Hair extensions constituted about
30% of the stalls and they are big money in the UK.

Well, once again a feeling
of déjà vu on leaving the leading event in hairdressing
- inspired, motivated and educated by the biggest names
in the industry, all of whom shared their tips and
techniques up close and personal. It helps to bring back
to India new inspiring ideas which in turn will inspire
