Managers and leaders are two completely different sets of people with dissimilar strengths and abilities. They have different attitudes towards their goals and relationships.

Managers are :
usually conservative, they like orderly work patterns and avoid taking risks.

Leaders on the contrary :
thrive on risks, are intuitive with ideas. They enjoy energizing and motivating people.

 

Comparative Roles of Managers & Leaders

Managers do things right;
Managers know how to get, what they want.
Management works within the systems;
Management deals with the speed;
Management works within the paradigm;

 

Leaders do the right things
Leaders know how to get what they ought to want.
Leadership works on the system.
Leadership deals with direction
Leadership creates new paradigm

 

Despite differences they both have their own functions that are necessary for success. Leadership and management are neither better nor a replacement for each other; but, they are two complementary systems of action.
