Our budding journalist Shabnam - a student of BMM interviews Richendar - a young collegian DJ, the most glamorous profession, how did you go about it? I got into this profession on my own. I always wanted to be in this profession. I started three and a half years ago; I played at Club 7, Shoppers Stop (Bandra), Bohemia Lounge (Juhu) and also at private parties. I basically do freelancing.

Is it your hobby or you want to make a career in it?
It is just a hobby as I am planning to make a career in the field of advertising.

How would you describe this profession?
I would describe it as a wonderful profession that requires loads of knowledge, hard work, creativity, dedication to your profession and in return loads of money.

What kind of music do you like?
Well my favourite music is Bollywood and House. But I have to play what the crowd likes, as I have to play for the people and play what they want to dance on. There are various genre, but a DJ has to play to the liking of the crowd in most of the private parties.

Is someone helping you or are you doing it all alone?
At first my friends helped me and also a very close friend who himself is a DJ. I learned sound engineering and editing on my own through computer.

Tell me about your over all experience about this profession.
It was amazing and I had learnt a lot. How to deal with different set of people and to know what they want...and it is really fun to have weirdest request and at the most unexpected place...that's the human tendency.

How is the response of people to your performance?
It was a fifty- fifty experience. You can say as sometimes people were very satisfied and sometimes they didn’t find the music to thier liking.

What kind of problems did you face at the initial stage and how did you overcome them?
I did face some problems especially for the instruments and various other equipments required for it. And also as this profession requires loads of contact. At first, I did not have contacts so it was a little difficult but now I am very much settled in this profession.

How was your first Djying experience?
My first experience was at a private party where I had played for my family friends. They all enjoyed it and every party is an experience for me because I learn a lot from the crowd and the music I play for them.

How did you get exposure to it?
My uncle himself is a DJ and when I saw him doing Djying suddenly I felt that even I want to take up this profession as I was mesmerized by it and that's the way I entered in this field

Who is your role model?

My uncle DJ Monty who is a famous DJ in Nashik.

How has your experience been and has it changed you in anyway?
Yes, there is an influence of it on my life. First, I was very reserved and always used to be with my selective friends. But now I am an outgoing person and love meeting new people and keen to know about them. I have become a good PR too.

What is your message to young aspiring DJs?
It's a wonderful profession. The only ingredients you need, to be successful in this profession is loads of hardwork, creativity, knowledge about people's taste, passion for music and also money.
