How & Why Weight Reduction

Every individual should try to maintain an ideal weight according to his / her height.

Any excessive weight above the ideal weight, predisposes the individual to health risks, including

• Heart disease,
• Diabetes,
• Hypertension,
• Atherosclerosis,
• Increased cholesterol,
• Gall stones
• Arthritis, and Hernias

Excessive weight occurs due to over-eating and less physical exercise.

Therefore, weight control primarily involves diet control and exercise.

Diet control is the cornerstone of weight reduction and most motivated people can eventually lose weight with diet control.

Exercising regularly is necessary for maintaining this weight loss, on a long term basis.

Simultaneous diet control and regular exercises are a sure method of weight reduction.

Advantages of reducing weight to the ideal body weight include:

• Reversal of Atherosclerosis
• Reversal of Heart Disease
• Better control of Blood Pressure
• Better control of Blood Sugar

• Better control of Blood Cholesterol
• Lesser chances of Hernias & Arthritis

Health Tit-Bits - Measure the “attack” risk !
The most accurate indicator of the risk of having a heart attack in both men and women is the ratio between waist and hip size. The ratio is found by measuring the circumference of your waist and then dividing the number by the circumference of your hips. If the figure is more than 0.9 for men, or 0.85 for women, then your risk of a heart attack is significantly higher. Fat distribution on stomach is particularly risky as it pumps out chemicals that can damage the insulin system, raising the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
