Unless you are
the only son of businessman whose business is not making him
loose his hair by the day and his sleep by the night or your
father is a man holding a high post in a well settled
organization and is expert in pulling strings, or you yourself
are a man of tremendous confidence and superlative talents you
must have appeared for interviews and if not, you will.
There are people
who appear for interviews without much fear of it but once they
come out of the interview hall they don't know what they had
done or said. There is another class who get insomnia before the
interviews. There is also the breed who make hay out of most of
the interviews but at the same time also have tasted defeat in
few. Whatever be your class, here are a few guidelines from a
veteran interviewee for sure results out of your interview:

|
|
BEFORE
THE INTERVIEW |
|
|
|
1. Whenever
you apply for any job keep a track of it and keep a copy of
the application always with you. This will help you get
necessary inputs for the interview you will be attending.
This is especially important if you are appearing for
interviews for Government Undertakings as their calls can
take as long as one year to reach you. 2. Find out
the details regarding the job and the company for which you
are appearing. This gives you a clear picture regarding the
job you may pick and the organization for which you are
planning to work. |
|
3. Finding
out regarding the pay scale of the same cadre employees may
also help you to strike a favourable bargain if possible. |
|
4. Put
yourself in the interviewers shoes and think of all the
possible questions he may ask, and prepare well drawn, brief
and positive answers for them. |
|
5. Make
yourself mentally prepared for the interview. Understand the
fact clearly that it is not only you who needs the job but
even the employer needs a person to do it. |
|
|
|
|
FOR
THE INTERVIEWS |
|
|
|
1. Decide the
outfit you are going to wear. Choose a formal but simple dress
which is free of flamboyant colours as well as fancy
stitching. A smart looking man is liked by one and all. 2. Prepare your
file of certificates and other documents and arrange them in
the order of importance. The care you take for this will be
noticed by the interviewer and a careful person is preferred
for all type of jobs.
3. Get good
sleep before important interviews as this will help you relax
and shed tension. 4. Finally take
care of your overall looks. If your hair needs trimming and
your shoes needs polishing do it. |
|
|
|
|
DURING
THE INTERVIEW |
|
|
|
1. Before
entering the interview room, by the time it's your turn make
sure not to become too anxious. Wipe sweat from your face,
straighten up your dress ,etc. 2. Entry is of
vital importance, this gives the first impression. Walk
straight yet not arrogantly, smile and wish all the
interviewers by greeting the ladies first. Smile is not only
very necessary but also of significance. Avoid a plastic smile
and smile with natural looks and sincerity. While wishing
sound cheerful but not loud. 3. Sit down
only when asked to. If interviewer forgets to ask you to sit,
ask politely. Sit relaxed with both arms on the arms rest.
Don't sit awkwardly. |
|
4. Don't get
nervous and start to twitch your fingers nor bite your nails
nor take deep breath nor make funny sounds! |
|
5. Answer the
questions honestly. Don't avoid the questions with short
answers. Speak up and cover the whole question-interviewer
wants to assess you and find out about you, so give them a
chance by trying your best. |
|
6. Try to be
polite, yet firm when it matters. At the same time try to
sound sweet too, nobody minds a little flattery and praise.
The hint is at being tactful and diplomatic. Show them that
dimension of yourself elaborately which they want to see and
find the most suitable for the job. |
|
7. In case you
don't know an answer to a question commit to the fact that you
don't know! Playing games will lend you up in a mess, Remember
you are at the receiving end. |
|
8. While
leaving the room wish them again and walk out straight without
hesitations. But yes, don't bang the door as you leave you.
Avoid asking blunt questions like ‘Am I getting the job?’ This
projects your lack of self confidence and you may loose a job. |
|
|
|
|
So, try these
simple tips next time you appear for an interview and you will
surely end up getting the job. And of course, there is every
chance that you may not get the job inspite of the best efforts,
if there is a better guy around or if an under the table deal is
struck. So, try again! |
