Our own Indians
look across seven seas for higher education and international
Qualifications. They spend fortune, sometimes a big chunk of
their accumulated reserves. Many even borrow huge amounts from
bank and repay for years to come. They stay abroad and struggle
for existence, manage to survive, hunt for any type of job and
for what they call getting a “phoren” qualification. |

|
|
Contrary to
typical native mentality there are students abroad who know
India is a shining place with great oriental warm culture. India
has standard and status in educational field too. So they choose
to come here for several benefits including acquiring
international qualifications just at 20% of the cost they would
spend abroad. From the 80% saved 20% goes to meet their stay and
food, another 20% they spend for sight seeing. Thus after
getting their cherished qualification and meeting the cost of
staying, food and even sightseeing, they are still having their
40% saving of total cost thus adding to their bank balance. |

With this wise
calculation quite a few foreign students come to IHCTM for doing
their international qualifications from UK, USA and Canada. During
their stay they are virtually hosted and pampered besides getting
superior quality teaching. Lenka is one such young lady who
preferred to come to Mumbai for acquiring international
qualifications. |

About Lenka
Lenka is a young lass from Czech Republic. She was staying in
London. She explored on the net to find out about institutes
across the world including India. She even went to the official
website of IATA and other international organizations and found
IHCTM to be on top for its quality education. Besides IHCTM offers
choice of multiple international qualifications. After confirming
a few facts about courses and facilities she came to IHCTM in the
month of June 2006. The Institution also helped her to find
convenient PG accommodation.
Being a focused
young lady, she short listed 3 qualifications from UK, USA and
Canada from the long list of International qualifications offered
right here at IHCTM in Mumbai.
During her 8 months stay not only she studied and fulfilled her
academic ambitions, but also got lot of help and guidance from
“Compact Travels” - associate company of IHCTM specializing in
Destinations for FIT holidays. Thus IHCTM has been popular
institute for students around the world as they are able to pursue
multiple international qualifications simultaneously. |

Lenka went through the long list of
international qualifications. She narrowed down her choice to 3
viz
1. 2 levels of Fares and Ticketing from Virgin Atlantic UK
(VA-1 and VA-2)
2. CRS from VIASINC USA and
3. IATA/UFTAA Management from IATA, Canada
Besides these Travel and Airline related qualifications she also
did a short course in Calligraphy. All this she could do in such a
short stay of 8 months and within her limited budget. The places
she saw During her short stay she got opportunity to see quite a
few places besides Mumbai. She went for holidays to Kerala, Goa
and Rajasthan as well as she took a trip to Copenhagen. We
reproduce Lenka's experience of India, though initially not so
encouraging but ultimately wonderful and highly satisfying as well
as offering value for time and money. |

INDIA - through a foreigner's eyes! |
|
|
|
My name is Lenka
Kozlovska and I am from the Czech Republic. I came to India to
study the IATA Management course which is run by the RBCS group,
based in Mumbai. I will be leaving India in a few days and would
like to share some of my experiences and reflections of my last 8
months in India. I have always loved travelling and discovering
new cultures, I also enjoy working in the travel industry and
therefore came upon the idea to combine my love of travel with the
bonus of receiving an nternationally recognized education in the
Travel Industry in Mumbai. Before deciding on doing this course I
first researched various countries which were suitable for me to
study in. |
|
|
|
Why India
Finance was the major factor as I would be using most of my
savings in order to fulfill this challenge. India was very
attractive to me because the price of the course was reasonable
but I was somewhat doubtful if I can adapt here. Fortunately I had
many Asian friends from my Napier University days in Edinburgh and
their positive influence along with India's mystical charm made me
decide that this was the right choice for me. |

My first
impressions
My first impressions on arrival in Mumbai was one of
disappointment, shock and amazement. Everything was so different
from that, that I was used to, such as the heat, the poverty, so
many people. It was a culture shock! It made me feel scared,
powerless and lonely. After a few days I began to settle in and
started my course. I was eager to learn as much as possible and
enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of the classroom and soon made friends
in a short time and developed a comfortable relationship with my
teachers. Everyone was very helpful in giving me advice and
information and making me feel welcome. The biggest obstacle I
faced was trying to find suitable accommodation and making my way
around such a large city. |
|
|
|
The public
transport system was a big headache in the beginning but I soon
learned how it worked. Shopping was also a problem as I often
couldn't find the things I wanted, also sales people try to sell
me items I did not want. I soon learned how to say no and even
pressed down prices and after a while traders respected me and I
could go around my business relatively uncoerced. |

Pondering over my
experience here in India I have learnt a lot about the people of
this land and learnt a lot about myself. In the early days of my
arrival here I was sometimes uncertain and frustrated with life
here and often felt like returning home. Now that my time here is
over for now, I see so many positive aspects of this land and its
people. People of India are her greatest asset with their
resilience, tolerance, sheer hard work and their never give up
attitude. I have experienced the kindness and respect they have
for each other and this often lifted my spirits. As I travelled
around the many beautiful regions and saw the many sights and
wonders, I can only be sure that India with its multi cultural
society has a very promising future. |
