BANISH that BLEMISH

How often has this happened to you? You're getting ready for some special social occasion such as an important dinner, party or dance when you suddenly discover a pimple forming on your face where there had been none. Just when you want to look your best! What to do? First make sure you clean your face thoroughly. Then try one of the following methods.

First aid for a budding pimple

With your middle finger, cushion the pimple over a bony part of your face so that it has a firm backing. You may have to move your flesh slightly to do this. Holding the pimple firmly with your finger, move it in a circular fashion. Don't rub your skin but hold onto the pimple. The infection that is forming should be carried away in the bloodstream. You may have to do this for 20 minutes or longer, but most small, newly formed pimples disappear with the treatment.

Wrap an ice cube in a piece of gauze and hold it over the pimple as long as you can. You may have to remove the stings. Repeat the application 20 to 30 times. The cold shrinks the small blood vessels and as they empty, they take away some of the infection. Don't use this method if you are prone to broken capillaries.

This procedure can be very effective in removing a pimple, although it takes a little longer. Mix a small amount of baking soda with an equally small amount of water. Apply it to the pimple. It should be left on for about two hours. Rinse it off before applying your make-up.

If you have the time, you might try all three methods. The larger the pimple the more difficult to remove, but you'll find these procedures will help you towards a flawless skin on that important evening. It's a bit harder to remove a blackhead or pimple that is fully emerged. The procedure can be done most efficiently by a trained beautician.

Eliminating a pimple
A pimple should only be squeezed to eliminate it when a small white area is seen at the top. This indicates that the infection has surfaced and can be eliminated with very little pressure. If a white dot isn't visible it means the infection is under the surface and squeezing would only tend to spread it. It is best to sought professional help for its removal.
