Young
Bombayite, Deepak Gaikwad, after completing his graduation in
Commerce, started working at the airport with the Oberoi Flight
Services restaurant. While there he was inspired to join the
airline industry. All he needed was some good training.
He began by joining the Travel & Tourism course offered by IHCTM
at their Mahim Centre. This provided a substantial foundation to
progress to international qualifications - the erstwhile IATA/UFTAA
Standard course followed by the IATA/UFTAA Advanced diploma.
Deepak didn't stop there. He continued to pursue higher
qualifications from IATA ranging from Airline Management to
Customer Service. This made him confident and ready for taking
opportunity in the field.
Deepak's first opportunity came with East West Airlines where he
worked as a traffic assistant. Shortly thereafter he was promoted
to Duty Officer. For all ambitious young aspirants, foreign jobs
are a great attraction. So Deepak too went to Saudi Arabia where
he worked with Aramco, an implant unit of renowned Kanu Travel, in
Jeddah. During his six years in Saudi Arabia, he reached the level
of Senior Travel Advisor. He however longed to return to India.

The following year
Deepak returned to India and decided to dedicate some time to
himself and family. Once again he was attracted to the lure of
Gulf waters and moved to Bahrain where he spent two years heading
Al Hidaya Travel Agency as Branch Manager. Al Hidaya is GSA for
Malaysian Airlines. After his second Gulf jaunt he returned to
India and was offered post of Senior Sales Executive in sales and
marketing with a leading aviation services company. Fifteen months
later, and having gained vast and varied experience of the
industry, he is now heading the Vashi Office as Branch Manager.
When asked about the secret of his success, Deepak modestly
attributed it to his consistency and dedication to his duty along
with his eagerness to be a lifelong learner. The sound knowledge
acquired at IHCTM during his introduction to the tourism industry
served as a stepping stone for his continuous growth, helping him
climb the ladder of achievement. Deepak is a happily married man
with a caring wife and a baby girl. He strives to maintain balance
between his profession and his family. This is the secret of his
cheerful and ready-to-help disposition.
His story should inspire many youngsters to be perseverant and to
explore higher levels of achievement while maintaining perfect
balance. |
