IHCTM had its bi-annual diploma awarding function on the 21st of December, 2007 to felicitate those students who had done well in the IATA/ UFTAA and IATA/FIATA examinations held during September & October 2007. The function was held the World Trade Centre, Mumbai. The function began with Subhash Motwani, Director- IHCTM, introducing the guest of honour Shekhar Thakur, Sales & Marketing Manager (Cargo) India of South African Airways. At this event, IHCTM decided to focus on the Cargo and Freight Forwarding Industry which is often not considered by students to be a viable career option. but in reality is an upcoming field with a lot of scope. The guest of honour Mr Thakur addressed the students and shared his experiences about the cargo industry- about how he was trained as a chartered accountant and entered the field by default and how he learned about the industry . He said that cargo is a booming sector which has shown a record compound growth of 9.5% this year and is likely to grow by 20% by 2015.

With the large number of new airports being built and the new airlines coming in, there would be innumerable job opportunities in this area. The good things about a career in this field is that what you actually do is different from what you merely read about in text books. It is not a monotonous and routine job- every day you do different things and face varied situations and exercise your decision using abilities to the fullest.

Another guest for the day was Mr Priyo Patra- the organiser of the Air Cargo Convention in India to be held in January 2008, who invited students of IHCTM to be a part of this event as volunteers. This is definitely a very good opportunity for the students as this will be a large scale global event.

Then the diplomas were given to all the students by Mr Thakur. Group photos of the students were taken. The function ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Subhash Motwani.

The students got the opportunity to personally interact with the guests as well as the teachers. This function was a good opportunity for the students to interact with their fellow students and celebrate their achievements as members of the IHCTM family.
