In terms of infrastructure, the
spacious campus full of greenery is one of the college's biggest
assets. Besides this, the college has a 3- floor library, a very
good computer laboratory, a gymkhana and its own bookshop selling
all the relevant textbooks. The science laboratories are very good
with the latest equipment. Separate laboratories for first year and
second year students are regarded by many students as a big asset.
The college is currently trying to upgrade its facilities with
better internet access in the library and other such features. This
is also one of the first colleges in Mumbai to have started a
Women's Development Cell to address the concerns of female staff
and students.
D. G. Ruparel college has a tradition
of nurturing bright students and helping them to meet their career
goals. With this end in mind, it has a Competitive Exam Centre
which provides information, guidelines and training for various
competitive examinations. Also, the atmosphere in the college is
one of healthy competition and this motivates students to study.
Academics is the focus, especially in the science stream which is
quite competitive.
However, the college is also well known for sports. The NCC unit of
this college has seen many of its members joining the Indian army
and joining the Republic Day parade and it is regarded as being
quite prestigious. The college provides coaching and encourages
participation in various sports and has an alumni consisting
several people who have won the Arjuna awards and the Chattrapati
Shivaji Award for excellence in sports. Extra- curricular
activities such as literary, music and art related activities are
also organised.
This college is recommended for
students who are keen on academics, especially those wanting to
study science. One has to get a good percentage in the SSC exams in
order to be eligible to get admission. The reputation of the
college as well as the A grade that it has been awarded, reiterates
that joining this college is definitely worth the effort required
