Beauty - Hair Secrets Unravelled

If you are left with dye on your skin after colouring, put some milk on cotton wool and rub gently on the skin to remove any stains.

  • A thorough rinse with soda water helps hair to really bring out that natural shine.

  • White wine enhances shine and colour in blonde hair. So if you have blonde highlights that have dulled you could freshen them by having a white wine rinse.

  • Use black mascara to cover the odd grey hair in dark hair.

  • Only use coated elastic bands that do not tear the hair shaft.
  •
  • Rinse out conditioner with cold water. It is refreshing and adds extra shine.

  • If your hair is frizzy, don't have too many layers. Have a few longish ones to allow hair to flow.

  • Concentrate use of conditioner on ends of your hair and avoid the roots. Heat opens up the cuticles allowing the conditioner to penetrate the hair shaft. Use a hot towel over the conditioner before rinsing.

  • If you use a hair-mask, wrap a cling film around your head. This retains heat and makes masks more effective.

  • A tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice in the last rinse is good for greasy hair.

  • Use a leave-in conditioner before heat styling of hair as it is less damaging.

  • Beer gives added body when used on damp hair before blow-drying.

  • To voluminize your hair, turn your head upside down and finger dry with dryer.

  • If your hair is fine and limp, enhance it with highlights or dual tone to help create an illusion of more body.

  • Always use a diffuser when blow-drying curly hair. This will help control the frizz.

  • It is essential to have a good cut to build volume. You can get extra body with clever layering.

  • For a quick hair freshener, when you can’t shampoo it, put a cold clean stocking over your brush and run it through your hair to remove surface dust.

Great looking hair isn't a mystery. These handy hints will help you to keep hair manageable and healthy.
