1. PEOPLEThere are approximately 1.35 million inhabitants within Munich
making it the 3rd largest city in Germany. More than 3 million tourists visit and experience the love of
Munich every year.
2. OKTOBERFEST
Approximately EUR 955 million is spent during the 16-day
festival EUR 450 million on the festival grounds for food, drinks
and entertainment, EUR 205 million for shopping in and around
Munich, public transport and restaurants, as well as EUR 300
million for hotel accommodation.
In 2007, 6.2 million visitors drank 7 million litres of beer.
The Oktoberfest employs about 12000 people. |

3. ART/ CULTURE/ MUSEUMS The Deutsches Museum, located on an island in the River Isar, is
one of the oldest and largest science museums in the world.
The court stables of the Nymphenburg Palace contain one of the
most important museums of royal carriages (Marstallmuseum), as
well as a collection of Nymphenburg porcelain. The Dressage
Facility for the equestrian events of the 1972 Summer Olympics was
created in the Nymphenburg park. |

4. SHOPPING/ FOOD/ NIGHTLIFE
The Auer Dult is held three times a year on the square around
Mariahilf Church. It is one of Munich's oldest markets and is
considered to be the largest crockery market in Europe.
Weisswurste (white sausages), a Munich speciality, are
traditionally only eaten before noon - a custom dating to a time
before refrigerators.

5. FOOTBALL
The outer panels of the Allianz Arena can be independently lit
with white, red or blue light. The stadium is lit up in red when
Bayern Munich play, in blue when 1860 Munich play and in white
when hosting the German National Team.
FC Bayern Munich have won 20 Bundesliga championships along with
13 DFB Cups, 4 UEFA Champions League/European Championships, 1
UEFA Cup and 1 UEFA Winners Cup for a total of 39 trophies making
Munich the most successful city in German football.
6. ECONOMY/ BUSINESS
Munich has the lowest unemployment rate (5.6 %) of any German
city with more than a million people. The Fortune Global 500 placed Munich in 9th position in terms of
revenue earned in 2008. |

7. EDUCATION
The Max Planck Society, an independent German non-profit
research organization, has its administrative headquarters in
Munich. The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich has more than 44000
students and is the 2nd largest University in Germany.
8. NATURE
With an area of 900 acres, the Englischer Garten is one of the
world's largest urban public parks. It is best known for its 4
beer gardens as well as nude sunbathers.
With 460 species and 5000 animals, Tierpark Hellabrunn, the
zoological garden in Munich is the largest zoo in Europe. |

9. DAY-TRIPS
Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany at 2962 metres, is
located on the Austrian border. Before Germany and Austria both
became members of the Schengen zone, there used to be a border
checkpoint at the summit.
Neuschwanstein Castle, in southwest Bavaria, was the inspiration
for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park. It is the most
photographed building in Germany. The Romantic Road between the cities of Wurzburg and Fussen is
internationally viewed as possessing quintessential German scenery

10. MUNICH AIRPORT
Officially named the Franz Josef Strauss International Airport,
it is the 2nd largest airport in Germany and the 8th largest
airport in Europe. It sees approximately 34 million passengers annually.
In 2007, it was named the "Best Airport in Europe" by Skytrax, an
