About the Medal

The medal is a distinguished work of art whose design has remained largely unchanged since 1880. The observe(front) side of the medal bears the City & Guilds Award Seal consisting of the Coat of Arms of the Corporation of City & Guilds, London. These belong to the 16 Livery Companies who were the original founders of City & Guilds.

The reverse(back) of the medals has changed slightly since 1880 and carries the student's name, the subject of the award and the date. The seal was designed by Charles John Shoppe and the same seal also appears on the Prince Philip Medal and on the Diplomas of Graduateship/Associateship, Membership and Fellowship of CITY & GUILDS
